Standard Poodles

Living out here where dogs get to be dogs– it’s amazing to see their joy chasing rabbits from the garden, alerting us to opossums in the hen house, learning how fast they can run racing the 4 wheeler, trying to catch butterflies and sun bathing while I garden.

5 years ago, I chose a standard poodle purely because of the traits listed online: best for off leash, trainable, non-aggressive, and a big dog. It took months… and months to get over the shame of owning “a poodle”, but Effy taught me how amazing they can be and now I can’t imagine my life without one. They truly set the Standard!

Upon finding a mentor with 40 years of AKC show and breeding experience, we have committed to breeding AKC standard poodles together. Specifically, we are breeding for natural instinct, sound temperament, and to improve structure within the parti-poodle lines. Conformation has been lacking in the multi colored poodles due to their limitation in AKC show and being bred for fun colors rather than demeanor, brains, and functional physical traits. I’m grateful to be joining other responsible breeders who are actively working to improve the parti-poodles.

Now we’ve had a few additions along the way, doggie friends for Effy, silkie chickens “the poodle of the chicken world”, muscovey ducks, and now Susan our jersey milk cow. So when family comes to visit, the kids get to experience chicks hatching, the taste of fresh milk, and getting their 4 wheeler stuck in the mud!
